About Us

We have both been teaching music for over 25 years.  We love to work with all ages.  Read a little more about us below:

Jim Trenbeath

Jim was born in Kenya, Africa, where his parents were missionaries. Jim grew up in Kenya, then later in southern Texas on the Mexican border. In high school he moved with his parents to Arizona, where they worked at the Southwest Indian School in Peoria. Growing up around ministry all his life, he made a personal decision to follow Jesus Christ when he was in the second grade.

Jim now loves to use teaching and music to touch and change people’s lives. After graduating with a degree in music and church ministry from Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky, Jim has served in various churches in Kentucky and Arizona for over 30 years.

He has been married to his lovely wife Dorothy for 32 years, and together they homeschooled their daughter, Rachel, and their son, David.

Together, Jim and Dorothy have taught hundreds of music students through the years. Their main areas of concentration are piano, voice, and guitar—but they enjoy all kinds of instruments and all styles of music.

When he’s not busy teaching or singing, Jim enjoys exploring Arizona, hiking, and reading. He likes nothing better than sitting on top of a mountain and watching an eagle ride the wind currents above a forest of Ponderosa pines.

Dorothy Trenbeath

Dorothy was born and raised in Arizona. Dorothy’s legacy includes missionary grandparents who came to Arizona to work with American Indians and parents who now serve with New Tribes Missions. When she was only six, Dorothy asked Jesus into her heart.

At the age of seven, Dorothy took eight months of accordion lessons. She then taught herself to play the piano, and before long she was playing and singing at church. Soon she accompanied the choir and eventually directed it. Dorothy graduated from Grand Canyon University in 1981 with a degree in Psychology and Sociology and a minor in Music.

She met her future husband Jim at an Indian conference at Mount Elden Campground in Flagstaff, Arizona on the Fourth of July. They were married in August of 1982, and when she’s not playing or singing him a song,Dorothy uses her psychology to try and figure him out!

Jim and Dorothy have two children, Rachel and David. Dorothy homeschooled Rachel K-12 and David K-8. Rachel graduated from Biola University in California, with a double major in flute performance and piano performance. Rachel and her husband, Chad Glazener live in southern California with their daughter Madeleine Elizabeth, who was born August 2013.  Jim and Dorothy love to see their first grandchild as often as they can.  David graduated from ASU with a degree in Business Administration. He and his wife Keila live in the Phoenix area where they both work for Arizona Baptist Children's Services.

Dorothy stays very busy with teaching, family, church and home, but in her spare time she enjoys navigating for Jim on their Arizona adventures, walking, reading and drinking a cup of hot herbal tea.
